Operations & Maintenance Project of the Year
This category recognises excellence in completed projects – from concept, through procurement, design and construction and on to operations and ultimate end user satisfaction.
Written agreement of the Commissioning Authority, the lead contractor and the lead engineer/architect is required to complete submission of the entry.
Shortlisted projects in this category will be judged by site visit from our judging panel.
This category recognises the value of our existing infrastructure assets and projects that make best use of them through excellence in operations and maintenance regimes.
Judges will look for projects and project teams that can demonstrate some or all of:
- Skill in managing an asset whilst in use
- The application of cutting edge techniques and methodologies
- The application and use of sustainable materials and methodologies
- Efforts to minimise user disruption
- Enhanced user experience on completion
- Satisfied stakeholders and third parties
- Demonstrable environmental enhancement
Judges will be scoring your entry against these five stages of project development:
CONCEPT
Demonstrate the extent to which the project team had a clear understanding of the outcome being targeted from the outset. Offer examples of originality and any application of research findings.
DESIGN
Describe how the project team developed an excellent design, taking into account appearance, detailing and harmony with the environment. Consider explaining the use of digital tools and any other design innovations.
PROCUREMENT
Explain how close, collaborative working drove better project outcomes in terms of cost, time, quality or any of factor considered crucial to the client. Consider sharing innovative procurement methods and other supply chain engagement tools. Explain any cost or time over-runs.
CONSTRUCTION
Demonstrate the extent to which the construction was exemplary. Consider highlighting the engagement of senior management, the quality of workmanship, safety performance, innovative value engineering and other technical or technological innovations used to improve construction productivity.
OUTCOME
Provide clear evidence of how the project has hit the brief, provided real economic/social value and is providing real occupier/end user benefit. Also consider demonstrating the project’s impact on other, broader, stakeholders and the environment. Also consider demonstrating how you have used the project to develop the skills-base of the industry.

Submission details (max 1,000 words)
- A precis version of the full name of the project as it may appear in Awards marketing material (no more than 5 words)
- The full and proper name of the project and a brief description of what the project is with a focus on the outcome (50 words max)
- A fuller written description of the key reason/s why this project should be considered for this award, which pays attention to all five stages being assessed. You can answer each stage in turn, or cover them all off collectively, but please ensure all are addressed. Please remember to give clear reasoning and qualitative evidence as to why this project is exceptional (max 950 words)
