smart motorways programme - head of design management,
Brian Fitzpatrick is a Highways industry specialist and advisor who, during his 35 year career to date, has accrued a wealth of successful management, design and delivery experience of major projects and initiatives through a variety of Project or Programme Management roles in the public and private sector.
Brian was previously the Communications Director for ITS-UK, and has been on the advisory board of Highways UK since its inception.
He has extensive experience of working with, or as the client for, many of the consultants and contractors currently working in the industry, and remains connected to the supply chain and emerging players developing best practice or breaking new ground today as a result of work with his own consultancy practice, Fitzpatrick Advisory Ltd.
This wide perspective, coupled with his technical expertise and experience, was a key element in his decision to create The Fitz INDEX in 2015. The Index is a yearly, and sometimes more frequent, industry poll which probes the sentiment and opinions of a wide cross section of the sector on such topical issues as the impact of Brexit, road pricing, electric vehicles, CAV, the funding and structure of the sector, Local Highways Authorities’ performance, and most recently procurement.
Brian is currently personally involved in a number of commissions with his practice including a role as Head of Design Management for Highways England on the Smart Motorways Programme, and a pioneering research project into digital infrastructure and CAV deployment with a leading English local authority.
Brian is in touch with ‘on the ground’ performance and innovation, and is well placed to provide authoritative, independent and learned assessment of the performance of forward-thinking companies operating in the infrastructure sector today.
