head of architecture,
Julian is an architect with strong design, technical and design management background developed through extensive involvement with major and award winning transport infrastructure projects including the Jubilee Line Extension, St Pancras Station and over the last decade his current role as Head of Architecture for Crossrail, one of Europe’s biggest and most complex construction projects.
Involvement in complex urban locations has given Julian substantial experience in dealing with, understanding and balancing the often conflicting demands of client, heritage, planning, statutory and regulatory bodies’ requirements and expectations.
Julian advocates architects working within holistic professional multi-disciplinary teams and promotes project and design management being used to drive high design quality to meet the brief and expectation within programme and to budget. He considers that respect between the professions of team members is key to good a building as it can only be as good as the sum of its parts.
