AG Paving + Building Products is a family-owned business, established over 60 years ago specialising in hard landscaping and building products. To enhance safety and mitigate risks, our focus was on improving hazards associated with moving machinery across all sites with an emphasis on guarding improvements and company lockout and isolation procedures. After extensive focus on the topic of moving machinery, Isolation and Lockout which included implementing a comprehensive awareness campaign, auditing programme and increased focus on personal responsibility through adding personal photos to the tags we have seen a positive impact in 2024 with ZERO incidents in this category.

Hinkley Point C Mental Health and Wellbeing Programme

The Hinkley Point C (HPC) Mental Health and Wellbeing Programme is being delivered at the construction site for the latest nuclear power station in the UK, where we have an international workforce of over 11,00 on the biggest infrastructure project in Europe. The initiative has a clear focus on providing mental health and wellbeing assistance to anyone at HPC, creating a supportive culture and addressing the stigma around mental health in the industry. Driven by our determination to have a positive impact and make a difference, we have developed a programme that is accessible and available to everyone on the project

HMJV's 'One Team, One Spirit HSW Programme'

HOCHTIEF-MURPHY Joint Venture continues to set the benchmark for performance on major infrastructure schemes through its “One Team, One Spirit” ethos that enables lean and empowered teams to consistently achieve and exceed client outcomes. The fresh, proactive and transparent approach towards HSW is evidenced by the decreasing AFR rates, increase in feedback cards, our commitment towards mental health with the introduction of the mental health committee, the results of our Cultural Pulse Check, our recent ISO recertification audit results with 0 non-conformances and our increased engagement among teams internally as well as accolades from Client, parent Companies and supply chain.

Rethinking Safety Through Inclusion and Wellbeing

In 2024, CEMC have embedded Laing O’Rourke’s industry leading health, safety and wellbeing initiative – ‘Rethinking Safety through Inclusion + Wellbeing’ (RStI+W). This increases health and safety resilience across our operations through engagement and trust. RStI+W is underpinned by three fundamental pillars Engineered Safety, Delivery Excellence and Human Performance. Under these three pillars we are able to engineer out risk and engineer in health at every stage, robustly implement our leading standards and HS&W management system, and create a working environment that supports people’s holistic health, enabling them to sustain high performance by managing their personal energy and capacity levels.

VKE Contractors
Angel Square - Reduced Vibration Drill Rig

In response to the identified risks of hand arm vibration syndrome and crystalline silica dust exposure during a structural alterations at Angel Square, we collaborated with Hilti to develop a bespoke rail-mounted drill rig which would minimize these risks . This innovative solution, combining various components adapted to suit our on site requirements, has resulted in a 70% reduction in HAVS exposure. Additionally, incorporating on-tool extraction to the rig we were further able to mitigate the risk of silica dust exposure. This proactive approach to worker safety underscores our commitment to eliminating and minimizing occupational risks and promoting workforce wellbeing.
